| While examining the database to build the story teller, I noticed some
anomalies in the serial number ordering the made me question how serial
numbers get assigned.
There are a small number of vehicles that have serial numbers that are
lower than 100. These serial numbers are often not in order. Out of the
236,590 VINs listed in the database, there are only 124 vehicles with a
serial number lower than 100.
Using 1996 as an example, the serial numbers 4 through 7, 12, and 13
exist. After that, the numbers jump to 101 and continue on in order
until the last car.
Based on this information, it is my assumption that these cars were built
to finalize the testing of the assembly line, and/or to test the first
cars that came off the line for any problems. At least one of these cars
is known to be owned by Chrysler Historic Services for their automotive
mueseum. I'm assuming that these cars are not part of the general
population and are stored somewhere for historic value.
My assumption could very well be wrong, and I would love to hear from
anyone that has more information regarding this. Here is a complete list
